You have just entered THE PEP RALLY! Your blood starts flowing, adrenal glands are rushing and your heart starts beating hard. Cheerleaders and pompoms are in sync to the band playing the fight song. Players, coaches, and fans are on their feet. Dancing, jumping and all are chanting simultaneously in anticipation for a victory. The crowd is pumped up, the optimism is surging, and everyone is focused on the same goal. You walk out of the arena after the final encouraging word from the team captain with an emotional high that will get you through until “game time.” Nothing can light a fire under your feet like a pep rally.
I love good pep rallies! They can be the key that unlocks the motivation we need to become a better version of ourselves or conquer our dreams. If we just had a pep rally within us 24/7, life would be exhilarating! Good news, my friend! It can be done! We can create our own pep rally within!
Let us look at two examples of men in the Bible that when the pep rally did not appear they created one within.
1 Samuel 30:6 KJV reads, And David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: BUT David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
Act 16:22-26 states, 22 The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. 23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24 When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.
At times, creating a pep rally within may feel like a daunting task. But, you can outsmart your emotions and feelings in order to create your inner pep rally. Here are some tips to create and build an environment that can help you get and stay motivated.
Strike up the band! Turn on encouraging and motivating music. Sing or hum along.
Sound the air horn! Use timers, stop watches, or bells that will produce a stimulus with a response.
Bring in the cheerleaders! Surround yourself with those that root for you and encourage you to play your best game possible. They are the team behind you!
Paint banners/signs and hang them all around! Visual stimuli and emotions are linked together. Motivational quotes, mission statements, written goals, pictures, and yes… even water bottles can help drive your success.
