The Forever Thing

Waiting for my husband as a single girl was like being a child in the backseat of a compact car asking, “Are we there yet?” and hearing the casual response, “Not yet, but getting closer.” It is painful to hear ‘not yet’ when you have been buckled up for hours in an extremely uncomfortable backseat. Riding with anticipation of how wonderful the destination would be, I sometimes missed the beautiful landscape along the way. Looking back on my single years, I discovered that waiting was not a disadvantage.

In order for me to receive love from a man, I first learned how to receive love from the One that is Love. I also had to know Love to show love.

1 John 4:8 (Amplified Bible) states,

The one who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. [He is the originator of love, and it is an enduring attribute of His nature.]

It is that kind of love that cannot be produced by a man, nor whipped up by human emotions. Love is The Forever Thing.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8,13 (The Passion Translation) reads,

4 Love is large and incredibly patient.

Love is gentle and consistently kind to all.

It refuses to be jealous when blessing comes to someone else. Love does not brag about one’s achievements nor inflate its own importance.

5 Love does not traffic in shame and disrespect, nor selfishly seek its own honor.

Love is not easily irritated or quick to take offense

6 Love joyfully celebrates honesty and finds no delight in what is wrong.

7 Love is a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others.

Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up.

8 Love never stops loving. It extends beyond the gift of prophesy, which eventually fades away. It is more enduring than tongues, which will one day fall silent. Love remains long after words of knowledge are forgotten.

13 Until then, there are three things that remain: faith, hope, and love—yet love surpasses them all.

So above all else, let love be the beautiful prize for which you run.

I waited and waited and waited… and when I was done waiting, I waited some more. And I am so glad that I did! In God’s timing, the wait was over. I met my husband April 25, 2009.

I never dreamed that I would turn out to be a spoiled wife, but here I am rockin’ it!
